LO3: Analysis

Feedback from client

  • Genre and location fit each other
  • The target audience is clear and appropriate however it needs an NRS rating
  • The synopsis is clear and well thought out
  • Location needs more detail
  • In terms of equipment, lighting would be needed when filming at night
  • A more realistic timescale is needed, remember to allow time for pre-production
  • Budget needs a physical number even if it is just an estimate.
To improve my proposal I will:
  • use the NRS scale when talking about my target audience
  • talk specifically about where my production will be filmed
  • Add 'lighting' to my equipment list
  • devise a more realistic timescale
  • put a physical number on my budget

LO2: Proposal

The Pretender

Executive Summary

The genre of my product will be crime/thriller. It will be shot throughout Barnsley and Sheffield in South Yorkshire. The narrative for my trailer is as follows. After his father is killed in an unsolved murder case, a young detective becomes emotionally involved in finding the killer. After the case is officially closed, the protagonist refuses to give up his hunt but ends up getting deeply involved in a criminal underworld that he never thought he'd be part of. He must blag his way through a once unknown world and do things he never thought he'd have to in order to bring his father's killers to justice. He must become, the pretender. The target audience for my trailer will be both men and women between the ages of 18 & 30 from the higher groups of the NRS social scale. I have chosen this target audience, as my film will feature key characters of both genders, so it appeals to both genders. It will feature some violent scenes and will use strong language throughout; it is therefore not targeted at people outside of the previously specified age range as those people will be either too young to witness such scenes or too old to find it culturally appropriate.

Statement of Need

The trailer I create will help promote the main film by enticing the audience using multiple action scene and footage of intense dialogue.

Product Description

My trailer will be filmed in the suburbs of Barnsley and in more urban areas of Sheffield; specifically the area around the park hill flats. A number of DSLR cameras and various lenses will be required to film my trailer. A tripod and a horizontal slider will also be needed. In terms of the crew, I will only require a director and a cameraman, as this is a low budget production. I aim to have all filming completed within three weeks of starting production; I will then take a further five weeks to edit the footage into the trailer. As the trailer will be filmed in a residential area, there are a number of legal and ethical issues that must be taken into consideration. I must make sure anyone who appears on the film footage has signed a release & consent form so I can use their image in production. When filming in the park hill flat area especially, I must make sure that the cameras don’t focus too heavily on people's actual property so as not to pry into their private lives.

Budget

I do not intend to film on any property that would require rental or a sum to be paid to the owner of the property. My cast and crew would be moving sets via local buses. As they are all students this would only cost 80p per journey, per member. The crew wouldn’t require monetary payment, as this is a college project if they help me in filming my product I will help them in filming theirs. They will be repaid with service.

LO1: Synopsis

Crime Drama - The Pretender

After his father is killed in an unsolved murder case, a young detective becomes emotionally involved in finding the killer. After the case is officially closed, the protagonist refuses to give up his hunt but ends up getting deeply involved in a criminal underworld that he never thought he'd be part of. He must blag his way through a once unknown world and do things he never thought he'd have to in order to bring his father's killers to justice. He must become, the pretender.

Sci-Fi - They Come At Night

The entire film is set over the course of one day. The main protagonist wakes up on a sunny Sunday morning after bailing on his friends who went out into town without him the night before. At first everything seems normal, but after a few hours, things start to seem out of place. None of his friends have replied to his text messages, his parent's cars are still in the driveway and they are nowhere to be found and all the power is off in the house. When he goes outside it becomes apparent that something is very, very wrong. His entire village has been cut off from everywhere else. A large perimeter fence surrounds him and the only clue as to what is happening is scrawled on the side of it. "THEY COME AT NIGHT".
